Dr. Victor E. Olori is a Senior Geneticist at Aviagen Ltd. with the responsibility for the group’s genetic evaluation. He is also the CEO of Livestock Improvement Services (LIS), a private consulting firm based in Cork, Ireland. Born in Nigeria, Dr. Olori was Educated in Nigeria (B. Agric. and MSc) and the UK with a PhD (Quantitative Genetics and Animal Breeding) from Edinburgh University. He has worked in academia and industry, in research and development with a lot of experience and expertise in the practice of livestock genetic evaluation and selection for sustainable balanced genetic improvement.
Dr. Olori has taught and supervised undergraduate postgraduate students in Nigerian, Ireland and UK Universities. He was a pioneer geneticist with the Irish cattle breeding federation (ICBF) where he helped in the establishment of the center for genetic evaluation dairy and beef cattle supporting ICBF’s national and international bull evaluations. He is responsible for research and development which underpins the genetic evaluation system for chicken and turkey pure lines for Aviagen. Dr. Olori has kept abreast of livestock production and genetic improvement issues in Africa through participation and collaboration at all levels in a series of academic and research activities in the continent. He is a recipient of the ‘Outstanding Contribution Award’ (2011) by Nigerian branch of the World Poultry Science Association for his services.
